Seed IP's Toshiko Takenaka, Ph.D., organizes workshops for members of Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA)
Seed IP attorney Dr. Toshiko Takenaka (of counsel) has organized a series of workshops for members of the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) to communicate with U.S. and European patent professionals in English. On May 9, she will open up the workshop and present tips for public speech and presentation. On May 16, Seed IP's Blake Kumabe (senior associate) and John Wakeley (partner) will give online presentations on USPTO patent prosecution and communication with USPTO examiners to IP in-house counsels of Japanese high-tech firms. On May 30, Seed IP partner Shoko Leek will fly in Tokyo to play the role of USPTO examiner in the mock examiner interview workshop using the hypothetical that Shoko developed. JIPA members play the roles of attorneys and applicants to discuss the patentability of claims over the prior art in the hypothetical. Toshiko continues to moderate the EPO sessions on June 6 and 20 in which European patent attorneys give presentations on EPO patent prosecution and play EPO examiners in the mock oral hearing based on Shoko’s hypothetical that the EPO attorneys modified reflecting the differences in patentability and new matter standards between U.S. Patent Act and European Convention.
