Two Seed IP attorneys selected to 2018 Washington Rising Stars List

Seed IP Law Group attorneys Michael P. Cooper and Thomas A. Shewmake have been selected to the 2018 Rising Stars list, as published in Thomson Reuters’ Washington Super Lawyers, Summer 2018 issue. Rising Stars honorees are nominated and selected through a detailed process based on nomination points, research points and peer-review points. The Rising Stars designation is given annually to a selected group of attorneys, each of whom has either been in practice for less than 10 years or are under the age of forty.

Michael is an associate within Seed IP’s Biotechnology, Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group. He specializes in patent prosecution of chemistry, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical matters. Michael’s practice includes U.S. and international patent preparation and prosecution, freedom to operate and patentability analyses, and intellectual property due diligence. He has experience with a variety of technologies including small molecule pharmaceuticals, formulations, materials science, and semiconductor fabrication. Michael received a B.S. in Chemistry (2006) and an M.S. in Chemistry (2011), both from University of Utah, and he was awarded a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law (2011).

Thomas is an associate within Seed IP’s Biotechnology, Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals, Trademark, and IP Enforcement, Defense & Litigation Groups. He focuses his practice primarily on intellectual property litigation and other adversarial matters in a variety of technical areas. Thomas’ litigation experience includes representing clients in cases involving patent infringement, trademark infringement and unfair competition, copyright infringement, and related commercial matters in both trial and appellate courts. He also has experience in U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, intellectual property licensing, and patent validity and infringement evaluations. Thomas’ experience covers a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and chemistry. He received a B.S. in Bioengineering (2003) from University of California-Berkeley, and an M.S. in Bioengineering (2008) from Arizona State University. He was awarded his J.D. (cum laude) from University of Arizona – James E. Rogers College of Law (2011).
