Two law students awarded Seed IP Law Group Founders Scholarships for 2022-2023

Law students Derek T. Brown (Seattle University School of Law) and Calder J. Thingvold (University of Washington School of Law) were recently selected as the recipients of Seed Intellectual Property Law Group’s Founders Scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. Derek received a B.S.in Computer Science and Cognitive Science, along with a minor in Software Engineering, all in years 2015-2018, from Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. He is expected to receive his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in December 2023. Derek became a registered U.S. Patent Agent in March of 2019. Calder received a B.A. in History in 2014 from Montana State University, and his J.D. from Alexander Blewett III School of Law (Missoula, MT) in 2019. He is expected to receive his Masters of Law (LL.M.) in intellectual Property from University of Washington School of Law in June 2023.

In 2003, Seed IP Law Group created two scholarships to honor its founders, Richard W. Seed and Benjamin F. Berry. Seed IP Law Group’s Founders Scholarships are awarded annually to students at the University of Washington and Seattle University Schools of Law to recognize outstanding students with a keen interest in intellectual property law. "We have long benefitted from the quality of graduates we recruit from the University of Washington and Seattle University law schools and are proud to support both institutions in their efforts to attract and educate future world class intellectual property specialists for the Pacific Northwest,” says Kevin S. Costanza, Seed IP’s Managing Partner.

On April 5, 2023, an attorney-student networking reception was held in the office of Seed IP Law Group. Mr. Thingvold was in attendance at the evening reception; see photos below. (Mr. Brown was out of town and thus unable to attend.) Many other IP law students from Seattle University School of Law and University of Washington School of Law were also in attendance, allowing them an opportunity to interact and network with a large number of attorneys from Seed IP Law Group.

Seed IP congratulates Derek and Calder on being the recipients of the 2022-2023 Seed IP Law Group Founders Scholarships!
